Ray Rice's wife slams his punishment for violence against her

Janay Rice, wife of suspended NFL player Ray Rice, apparently posted a statement Tuesday on Instagram calling the situation a "nightmare."

"To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his ass off for all his life just to gain ratings is a horrific (sic)," she wrote.

The Baltimore Ravens released Ray Rice on Monday after a video surfaced showing him knocking her out with a punch in February.

Rice was originally suspended for two games, a punishment that many saw as too lenient.

Rice was just weeks away from returning to the gridiron when the new video surfaced and the Ravens and the NFL acted more severely. More

Accuser: 'Sons of Guns' star Will Hayden raped me 22 years ago when I was 12

Ravens terminate Ray Rice’s contract

The Baltimore Ravens terminated running back Ray Rice’s contract on Monday, hours after TMZ Sports released a video showing him punching his then-fiancĂ©e in the face in an Atlantic City hotel elevator in February.

The team had no other comment in its statement announcing Rice’s release.

Rice’s assault on Janay Palmer, who he married in March, drew a two-game suspension from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell — a penalty so severely criticized as too lenient that Goodell recently revamped the league’s personal conduct policies covering domestic violence and assault.

The NFL says it never saw the video until Monday. More Watch video at Nutty News Videos: RAY RICE THE PUNCH INSIDE ELEVATOR TO FIANCEE KNOCKED OUT NEW VIDEO
